Events Our October, 2008 event, "The Next Generation of Work Flexibility", took place at UC Irvine. The conference featured a panel of experts discussing flexibility in the workplace for professional mothers and employers looking to attract and retain highly skilled talent. The panel featured perspectives from Deloitte, CultureRX & ROWE (Results Only Work Environment), an Organizational Behavior professor from UC Irvine's Merage School of Management and others. The resounding theme from our panelists was that the following cultural changes need to be made so flexibility can thrive in today's workforce: - Transparency, especially by the executives within companies, when notifying people why you will not be available
- Transfer control over schedules and location to the employee
- Focus on results
Once transparent behavior is modeled by management, the stigma that tends to accompany flexibility in the workplace will disappear. What will remain is a more results-focused, happier workforce that is empowered to find their own personal work/life balance. | |
